Luck

Released from prison after three years, 'Ace' Bernstein plots revenge against the colleagues who betrayed him. With his trusted aide/chauffeur Gus Demitriou acting as a front for his race horse investment, Ace seeks to reverse the sagging fortunes of a famous racetrack. Meanwhile, four dissolute gamblers at the race track - Jerry, Marcus, Renzo and Lonnie - pool their meagre resources to make a Pick Six bet that could be worth millions. A key to their fortunes is a long-shot horse trained by Turo Escalante, a self-made success story with loads of talent and few scruples, who's also training Gus/Ace's colt. Walter Smith, another more grizzled trainer, sees classic potential in an untested thoroughbred with impressive bloodlines.

Wed 28th June

Luck

Chafing under his parole conditions but eager to move forward in the racetrack deal, Ace shows off his famous temper during a contentious meeting with one-time colleague Nick DiRossi and a possible investor, Isadore Cohen. Although Marcus is wary about flaunting his newfound Pick Six wealth, his three partners have no such qualms, as Jerry sits in at higher-stakes poker games, Renzo sets his sights on claiming one of Escalante's mystery horses, and Lonnie parties with two unscrupulous women. Uncertain that fledgling jockey Rosie Shanahan is seasoned enough to ride his once-in-a-lifetime horse, Walter Smith enlists Ronnie Jenkins, ignoring the veteran jockey's recent history of substance abuse.

Wed 28th June

Luck

Ace enlists a cocky, young, whiz-kid named Nathan Israel in his plans. Walter decides to enter his colt, Gettin'up Morning, in his first race, but loses Ronnie as his rider when the jockey takes a tumble. Burned by Mulligan at the claiming race, Marcus, Renzo and Lonnie send Jerry to buy the horse back - and then return him to Escalante to train.

Wed 28th June

Luck

As Chan challenges Jerry to his limits in a private poker game, Jerry's pals look to pry him away from his gambling nemesis. Ace takes a meeting with Claire Shea, an activist who hopes to rehabilitate prisoners through their work with broken-down racehorses. He then visits his one-time partner Michael Smythe to discuss his participation in Ace's racetrack venture. With Ronnie out of commission and surrendering to old vices, Walter settles on Rosie as his jockey, but her euphoria is tempered by Leon's not making weight.

Wed 28th June

Luck

After learning that Gus' Irish horse, Pint of Plain, has been tentatively scheduled to race the next day, Ace forces Escalante to swap out Leon for a more experienced jockey, to Joey's chagrin. Marcus fears for his health and wonders why he's so attached to Jerry, while Kagle, who's been fired from the racetrack, returns from a bender looking for a handout. Ace gives Claire a lucky check, and the two head to the track with Gus to watch Pint of Plain's memorable debut.

Wed 28th June

Luck

As Ace pitches his deal to buy a piece of the racetrack, Israel visits Smythe, DiRossi and Cohen on board Smythe's yacht, where he's offered a "second salary" as an informant. An earthquake spooks many of the horses at Santa Anita, but Escalante decides to go ahead and race Mon Gateau. He and the Degenerates end up sweating the outcome when Leon bumps another horse in the stretch, triggering an official review. Rosie endures her own missteps in her race with Gettin'Up Morning, vexing Walter and inviting fresh scrutiny of the old trainer and his prized horse. Joey reaps an unlikely dividend from a near-death experience, while Jo ponders an uncertain future with Escalante.

Wed 28th June

Luck

While Ace tours a prison outreach horse retirement farm with Claire, Israel tries to convince Smythe that his boss is on the level. Jerry and his erstwhile card dealer, Naomi, try to win their way into a poker tournament. Lonnie decides to "go it alone" by putting in a claim for another horse, a filly named Niagara's Fall. Walter meets with Hartstone, a lawyer, to defend his ownership of Gettin'Up Morning, and has to make a decision about which jockey will ride him next. Rosie asks Joey to be her advocate; Ronnie attends AA in an attempt to get his life, and career, back on track.

Wed 28th June

Luck

Ace ices out Smythe, DiRossi and Cohen as partners in the racetrack deal, but Smythe has other ideas. Weathering the ownership claim, Walter enters Gettin'Up Morning in the $1 million Western Derby - head to head against Ace and Gus' Pint of Plain. Unable to make weight, Leon loses his mount; Joey comes through for Rosie; a stable accident jeopardises Jo's pregnancy.

Wed 28th June

Luck

Gus takes extraordinary precautions to protect his boss. As Jerry maps out a strategy for another big score, Escalante preps his race-day horses while keeping an anxious ear out for news about Jo, who's still in the hospital. Renzo welcomes his mother to town. Mon Gateau runs his biggest race yet. Later, Ace and Gus join an expectant crowd for the epic showdown between the two stars of Santa Anita, Ace and Gus' Pint of Plain and Walter's Gettin'Up Morning.

Band of Brothers

It is two years earlier: in Camp Toccoa, GA, volunteers train for America's new military experiment, the paratroops. Theirs is one of nine companies in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment: E, aka Easy Company, commanded by the domineering Lt. Herbert Sobel. Through a regimen that involves frequent six-mile climbs up and down Currahee, a local mountain, Sobel succeeds in drilling the men into an elite unit. But his heavy-handed tactics, punishments for petty or imagined infractions, and strategic failures during manoeuvres, alienate Sobel from his men, who prefer his cool-headed second-in-command, Lt. Winters. After the 506th is shipped to England to complete training, Sobel harasses Winters by citing him for failing to inspect a latrine on time. When Winters requests a trial by court-martial, six of his sergeants: Salty Harris, Chuck Grant, Bill Guarnere, Carwood Lipton, Mike Ranney and Floyd Talbert request transfer rather than follow Sobel into combat.

Sat 1st July

Band of Brothers

Landing in a field, Winters finds he has lost his rifle and supply bag. He teams up with a private from another company, John Hall, and sets out to find their units. During the night they link up with a few more soldiers, and ambush a horse-drawn German supply convoy, their first enemy encounter. Regrouping in a nearby town, Winters runs into Easy's Lt. 'Buck' Compton, who tells him that Lt. Meehan is unaccounted for, which puts Winters in charge. His orders are to lead an attack on a nearby cluster of German artillery pieces endangering the seaborne infantry at Utah Beach. Winters deploys a small group on the entrenched enemy positions, and eventually takes four artillery pieces in succession, disabling them with TNT. The euphoria is tempered, however, when Winters finds Hall dead, killed by machine-gun fire. The mission is successful, but Winters has lost his first man as acting company commander.

Sun 2nd July

Morning

Band of Brothers

Lt. Harry Welsh delivers Easy's next orders: take Carentan, the only town where armoured vehicles from Omaha and Utah beaches can link up. Winters briefs the men, and Easy heads into Carentan, encountering fierce resistance from Germans holed up in buildings. The town is eventually secured, although Winters gets hit above his ankle by ricochet gunfire.

Sun 2nd July

Band of Brothers

The respite doesn't last long; in September the men learn they're being airlifted to Holland as part of Operation Market-Garden, a joint American-British offensive that aims at securing quick access to Germany and ending the war by Christmas. Unlike Normandy, the daytime parachute drop is executed smoothly, and the company is greeted as heroes as they enter the town of Eindhoven after minimal resistance. All that changes when the company marches to Nuenen, where Easy is met by a brutal attack that ends with Compton wounded, a retreat ordered, and 'Bull' Randleman stranded in the town overnight. It's a sobering and bloody initiation to combat for the replacements.

Sun 2nd July

Band of Brothers

As Winters labours over a report on the dike mission, Heyliger leads a rescue of British soldiers escaping from the besieged town of Arnhem. An anxious Winters worries about Easy (now one of three companies he helps command), especially after Heyliger is shot and wounded by a nervous sentry. After moving off the line to France, Nixon insists that Winters take a break and see Paris. Winters is haunted there by the memory of a young German he killed at close range on the dike. As he returns to the Company at Mourmelon, news comes of a massive German counterattack in the Ardennes Forest. Winters helps Easy race there to hold the line, his men ill-equipped for the cold and the battle ahead.

Sun 2nd July

Band of Brothers

Medic Eugene Roe is overwhelmed, on edge and close to combat exhaustion, when he finds friendship with a Belgian nurse. Easy Company spends a miserable Christmas in the trenches, but is buoyed after receiving the news that the German army's demand for surrender was met with General McAuliffe's defiant answer: "Nuts!"

Sun 2nd July

Band of Brothers

Several are killed and wounded in fierce shelling, compounded by the incompetence of their new commander, Lieutenant Dike, about whom Winters can do nothing. Easy takes Foy, but at an enormous cost.

Sun 2nd July

Band of Brothers

Lt. Hank Jones, fresh from West Point and eager for combat experience, volunteers to lead, though he must convince a sceptical Winters. Also assigned to the patrol is Private David Webster, back in Easy after rehabilitation of an injury. While successful, the mission costs a soldier's life, prompting Winters to ignore the order to send out a second patrol the next night.

Sun 2nd July

Band of Brothers

A patrol in a nearby forest discovers an abandoned Nazi concentration camp, still filled with emaciated prisoners. The local citizenry, unbelievably disavowing knowledge of its existence, is made to clean it up. Suddenly, news arrives from Berlin: Hitler is dead.

Sun 2nd July

Band of Brothers

As German officers hand over their weapons, soldiers raid well-stocked wine cellars, snag souvenirs from residences, and endure one final tragedy when a replacement soldier cracks. Despite the fact that VE (Victory in Europe) Day has passed, Easy faces the prospect of imminent deployment to the Pacific Theatre. But as the men compare "points" to see who has earned enough to go home, word arrives that the Japanese have surrendered, ending the war and dissolving Easy Company. A memorable closing vignette tells what happened to Winters and some of his men after they returned to the States.
